Collecting the 1980s: Coming Soon

Are you a baseball card collector?

I am.

Do you like oddball baseball cards and giveaways?

I do.

And I miss them. Desperately.

Oddballs added color, interest, and baseball card collectors to the hobby. This was true from nearly the very beginning of baseball cards -- after all, the first baseball cards were giveaways to help sell cigarettes.

But especially in the 1980s, oddballs took off and became a world unto themselves.

I want to write about these sets, and learn more about these sets -- and even collect at least one card from each of these sets.

Will you come along with me for this journey through the oddball wonderland that was the 1980s? I hope so.

  1. I've been looking for a place to have an in depth discussion about Drakes cards!

  4. Often I wish the current collecting world would be modeled after the 80s. Give me one big set from Topps, Fleer, and Donruss. For variety, throw in Score, Upper Deck and Sportflics. But what I would enjoy most are the oddballs! Boxed sets, food issues, team issues... let me chase them all!
    Can't wait to follow along!
